Nyerere was previously known as Selous National Park. It is the largest game reserve in Africa located in the southern region of Tanzania. This park offers unique activities compared to the rest of the national parks in Tanzania and the most unique being hunting. Nyerere national park allows tourists to hunt animals in the southern part of the park, this is a feature it doesn’t share with the other national parks in Tanzania.
That is not all, the park also allows several activities including game drives on the north part, walking safaris, boat safaris and sometimes hot air balloon safari. These activities give you a chance to see several animals such as elephants, buffaloes and lions.
The park can also be easily accessed from Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar making it the next best choice in the southern and coastal side of Tanzania.
A game drive in Nyerere National Park is an early morning adventure across the park’s vast wilderness, riverine forests, and open savannahs. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you wouldn’t want to miss, offering incredible opportunities to see some of Tanzania’s most remote and pristine wildlife habitats.
Guided game drives are one of the most popular activities in the park. Traveling in 4WD vehicles, you may spot elephants, lions, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, and a variety of antelopes, as well as rare species like African wild dogs, all thriving in this expansive protected area.
Walking safaris, boat safaris, and bird watching are other highlights when visiting Nyerere. Explore the park’s unique landscapes on foot or by boat along the rivers, spot hundreds of bird species, and enjoy a close-to-nature experience that makes your visit truly unforgettable.
