Not everyone is ready to climb the Roof of Africa, and that’s perfectly fine! You don’t have to summit Mount Kilimanjaro to experience its magic. This full-day adventure takes you into the foothills of the mountain with a refreshing 30–45 minute hike that leads to the stunning Materuni Waterfalls, where you can cool off in a natural pool and soak in the tropical scenery.

But there’s more than just waterfalls! Coffee lovers will love this trip, as you visit authentic Chagga coffee farms, learning the entire coffee journey — from planting and harvesting to roasting and brewing. Taste freshly brewed coffee straight from the farm and discover why Tanzanian coffee is world-renowned.

The tour also immerses you in the culture of the Chagga people, one of Kilimanjaro’s most vibrant tribes. Learn about their history, traditions, and way of life, and get a chance to taste local Chagga delicacies along with the exciting traditional banana beer known as Mbege.

Itinerary

Morning

Depart early from Arusha and drive toward the lush foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, passing scenic villages and farmland. Begin a 30–45 minute hike through tropical forest to the stunning Materuni Waterfalls, where the trail opens up to the cascading falls and a natural pool — perfect for swimming and cooling off. Along the way, your guide points out local plants, birds, and the breathtaking mountain scenery.


Afternoon

After the waterfall, visit authentic Chagga coffee farms, learning the entire process from planting to roasting. Taste freshly brewed coffee and experience the vibrant Chagga culture, exploring village life, traditional houses, and local customs. Enjoy a lunch of traditional Chagga dishes and try Mbege, the local banana beer. The afternoon combines culture, flavor, and learning in a relaxed, immersive way.


Evening

As the day winds down, take in panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro (weather permitting) and walk back through the lush forests. Capture memorable photos of waterfalls, village life, and tropical landscapes. Return to Arusha in the early evening, reflecting on a full day of adventure, culture, nature, and unforgettable experiences.
